The Scunthorpe Referee’s Association is committed to the mentoring of all member officials who require it and have put into place a brand new mentoring scheme for the 2020-21.
The new mentoring scheme has been devised by three current Level Four officials, alongside Chairman of the SRA, Rob Atkin, and form a Mentoring Scheme Committee.
Once this scheme is completely off the ground, the aim is to introduce more mentors to the scheme to make it a long and successful operation.
Our Mission Statement…
The redesign of the Scunthorpe Referees Association Mentoring Scheme aims to increase the rates of retention and progression within the Referees Association, as well as better preparing new and young referees for the challenges they may face through their career when acting as both Referees and Assistant Referees.
The New Model…
The new Mentor Scheme model takes its design from the Supply League Observer model. Rather than having a mentor assigned to a particular individual referee or small group of referees, each mentor will be appointed a different referee on each game day, thus allowing the new referees to gain a wider variety of knowledge from the pool of more experienced referees.
The Touchpoints…
The MSSC has identified six key “touch points” in which it is deemed referees with the SRA would gain the most benefits from interactions with a mentor.
At each of these stages the referee would receive their mentors’ feedback via a specially designed feedback form, that is written in such a way that the referee can gain the most from this feedback and develop their game in the best way for them. These forms can be found in the appendix of this document.
To view each of the touchpoints, you can view it in the full mentoring document or see them in their brief form in the graphic at the top of this page.
The Promotion Scheme and beyond…
When you decide that the Promotion Scheme is for you, we don’t just leave you to it. That’s where the final touchpoints come in. At that point, though, mentoring becomes coaching, and we can be available to help you fine tune your game ahead of those crucial observations. See below for more details.
